Artist Statement

Luisa Brando is dedicated to producing visual art and architecture projects sensitive to heritage conservation and dichotomies between nature and culture, tradition and development. Working on the edge between disciplines and geographies, her site responsive work invokes to reflect upon the memory of a place through the connections across the natural, the material and the inmaterial. Over the last four years her research has been on rivers.  A transdisciplinary project that inquires on the idea of rivers as static lines, a political design that has placed rivers as borders and voids across states, instead of regional connectors. Yet, rivers are not division lines, they do not respond to such static administrative boundaries. Rivers are connectors by essence, they are both ephemeral and cyclical, visible and invisible, past and future, culture and nature.
